RECTAL BLEEDING – Don’t Ignore Your Symptoms!

Rectal bleeding is a serious problem. It should NOT be taken lightly.

It is not uncommon for people to deal with rectal bleeding for several months before seeking medical help. The problem with this is one may be dealing with a potentially life-threatening condition. For example, in addition to being caused by conditions such as hemorrhoids or anal fissures, rectal bleeding can also be a symptom of a more serious condition like colorectal cancer.

It is important that all patients with rectal bleeding have a thorough examination to identify the cause of the rectal bleeding. My recommendation is that the patients be evaluated by a colorectal specialist. Such a specialist, is extensively trained in the diseases of the colon, rectum and anus and will be able to adequately examine these regions and institute the appropriate management.

The management options generally depends on the cause of the rectal bleeding. It can range from dietary changes to medical management using medications to surgery.

If you have rectal bleeding, the earlier you seek medical attention, the earlier you will get treated. That will make a huge difference!!!
